The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, next to the mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, and councilor of the Municipality of Murcia, Fátima Barnuevo, presented this afternoon at the stand of the Region of Murcia at the Contemporary Art Fair ARCO in Madrid, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art 'Manifesta', whose 2010 edition will stop in the Region in three locations: Murcia, Cartagena and Ceuta.
Pilar Barreiro has expressed its satisfaction for this initiative and thanked the director its commitment to Cartagena as one of the cultural capitals of the region, which has demonstrated its dedication to the contemporary art with the opening of Muram (Regional Museum of Modern Art) at the Palais de Aguirre and the projection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, which is part of the Roman Amphitheatre recovery.
In addition, the mayor pointed out that our city is not far behind in the vanguard in many areas, welcoming new cultural initiatives such as the Sea Music and Much More May Festival Youth organized.
Born in the early nineties, 'Manifesta', the European Biennial of Contemporary Art is a cultural structure that strives to new audiences for contemporary art as well as stimulate new approaches to artistic production and exhibition.
Itinerant biennial change of placement every two years, corresponding to Cartagena, with the cities of Murcia and Ceuta, to host next year.
The typical Manifesta biennium includes a range of activities spread over a period of two or more years and includes meetings, debates, seminars (called "Coffee Breaks"), publications and other activities, culminating in a final sample of three months.
