The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, today in Cartagena, accompanied by the mayor of the town, Pilar Barreiro, the new fleet of buses in which the regional government has contributed 190,000 euros to adapt to the disabled Region, within the policy of reduction of architectural barriers driven by the Department.
The new buses, which have been financed by grants to the Directorate General for Transport and Ports, have specific platforms for the access of disabled people enabling them to access without relying on someone else.
According to the Minister, "the importance of such improvements is that give users of public transport with physical disabilities the independence to move around the region, without others, and to meet their needs in a completely autonomous."
Vehicles, Iveco brand, Mercedes-Benz and Cars, has been acquired by companies Aracil Bus, Urban Transport and Ezekiel Cartagena Galera, which include in their city and intercity routes public transport.
They have also the same benefits as other regional bus fleet of public transport: air conditioning, heating, security elements to be driven or radio, among others.
The counselor also said "the buses are delivered today are further evidence of our effort to promote affordable mobility for all citizens, subsidizing too many vehicles adapted for non-profit associations."
In total, the department spent in 2008 more than 350,000 euros to the adaptation of vehicles in order to increase the mobility of persons with disabilities "for these people too can enjoy their right to mobility in the 45 municipalities of the Region .
