Pilar Barreiro The mayor has encouraged all of Cartagena to address the economic crisis with confidence, since the Cartagena is now much stronger and resilient than early nineties suffered another similar economic situation.
In his Christmas message, Barreiro has highlighted that this growth path of Cartagena will be supported by local companies and multinational alliances such as Repsol, which developed in the city's largest industrial investment in the history of Spain.
Tourism will also be crucial in this new year, with the development of new heritage restoration projects.
In this sense, the mayor pointed out that the recovery of the Roman Theatre and the opening of the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology have been two of the highlights of the past year.
Finally, Barreiro has been a reminder to all those who are no longer as Juaneda Rosario and Jose Mata, and has invited all the people of Cartagena to enjoy these days in the company of their own.
Christmas Message from the Mayor:
I have the honor to address you on behalf of the Corporation of the City of Cartagena to wish them happy holidays and a new year of peace and prosperity.
During the year we said goodbye to share important moments Cartagena.
2008 was the year that culminated in the recovery of the Roman Theatre and its museum opened to the public.
Also this year was the opening of the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology, inaugurated by Her Royal Highness the Infanta Doña Cristina.
These are two great events that have received majority approval of the Cartagena and the response of an unknown number of visitors so far in the city's tourism.
Next year we will have brand new development of other major projects that will help recover more assets, opening new museums and attractions in Cartagena multiply for tourists.
With everyone's help, we will continue to grow that way, in the same way that we will work to keep the sales force and support the industrial momentum in recent years.
For this we have the commitment of the company Cartagena and the alliance of multinational Repsol, which develops in Cartagena, the largest industrial investment in the history of Spain.
It will be good to remember all this when our thoughts before the new year see reference to the crisis.
In this land, that word brings echoes of some very tough years in the early nineties that hit a few cities like Cartagena.
We do not know how will this new crisis, what we do know is that Cartagena is not the same.
Now, we are stronger.
Cartagena can not escape the effects of these difficulties, but our economic structure is much stronger.
Therefore, we can have confidence in our ability to suffer less and check out the situation.
With that assurance we have to work during the coming months.
I know I speak on behalf of all members of this council to tell the Cartagena job seekers that they are the focus of our work and will join efforts to keep Cartagena on the growth path it has traveled over the last decade.
It will also be the best tribute to two former councilors of the Corporation to whom we said goodbye in recent months.
José Mata and Rosario Juaneda occupy a place in our memory, along with Salvador Rosillo, Antonio Madrigal and all the friends you'll take less especially at family gatherings in the coming days.
In our tradition, Christmas is a time of solidarity and hope.
Bet now with hope and continue thanking and supporting the work of institutions and volunteers who work every day, even during the holidays, to meet and accompany our neighbors in need.
I would like, finally, invite them to go out and participate in holiday activities that the City has prepared thinking especially families and children.
I hope you enjoy it with them and, at his side, have a happy Christmas and New Year of peace and prosperity.
