The training workshops in health, in which the City participates through the Department of Social Services, started last Thursday with the aim of expanding the training of those professionals and volunteers working partnerships with the immigrant population, mainly the geriatric field, on basic issues, bearing in mind the cultural perspective in addressing the health-illness pairing.
This first workshop, which began last week is being led by professionals from Murcia Health Service, and are participating in the same twenty-seven people belonging to fourteen groups.
Training workshops, which targets mainly health workers, mediators and educators, will be held in four sessions and a total duration of eight hours, as part of a wider training activity is scheduled for completion during the first quarter of next year .
The content to be covered have been grouped into three thematic and previously developed by working groups composed of staff from health institutions, local government and nonprofit associations in the municipality.
The first of these blocks, is dedicated to maternal and child health, later developed a sexual health and other psychosocial health.
Also perform other more general workshop related to communication skills and self esteem.
The organization of this action is the result of ongoing work since late 2006 an interagency committee whose main objective is to improve the health of the immigrant population.
This technical group is composed of representatives of the Primary Care Management of the Department of Cartagena, the Regional Centre of the Directorate General of Public Health and the Migration Program of the City of Cartagena, and made, inter alia, guidance on the access to health resources, the pilot of the translation service in five health centers in the municipality and the establishment of working groups that have developed the content of these training activities.
