The City of Cartagena, through the Municipal Institute of Social Services, today presented of 240,000 euros in subsidies to NGOs based in Cartagena for its international cooperation projects with developing countries for 2008, an act who chaired the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Town Hall.
There are seven organizations, which are Youth Without Borders, Friends of the Saharawi people, Manos Unidas Delegation Cartagena Interred Foundation; Firefighters in Action; Chinguetti Foundation, Caritas Cartagena Coordinating Center, which have divided the said consignment budgetary projects in the fields which they are targeted towards these funds, such as Social Services, Infrastructure, Education, Training and Employment and Health.
The projects developed by these organizations are aimed at building and employment training centers for youth and women, actions in health and nutrition, education for children living in extreme poverty and promoting sustainable development rural communities.
Of funded projects, two are directed to countries in northern Africa, specifically Algeria and Mauritania, and the rest of Central and South American countries like Peru, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Mexico.
