Bascuñana children visit the center's 34 Children's Home of Cartagena (20/11/2008)

The Minister of Social Policy, Women and Migration, Joaquín Bascuñana, today visited the Children's Home Center of Cartagena, where they live now a total of 34 children under seven who are served by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent Paul.

The center, which was built in 1949, welcomes children who are in legal status of "helplessness" and protection lies with the Administration, or "saved", ie, protected by parents but circumstantially protected by the Administration.

The Minister stressed the "great work" undertaken by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in the daily care of these children who are mostly of Spanish nationality.

In total, 27 minors are Spanish, two Moroccans, three Ecuadorians, one Romanian and one English.

On the other hand, in terms of age, 17 were babies under two years, 16 are aged between 2 and 6 years and one is seven.

Also, note that three of the children in our center have special needs arising from mental and physical disabilities.

The center serves children under six years and only when it comes to sibling groups or slightly exceed this age, remain at the center.

Throughout 2008, the Home for Children in Cartagena has hosted 59 children, with an average occupancy of 32 children per day.
