The Department of Social Services of the City of Cartagena, with the collaboration of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, has prepared a program caring for the care of older people, based on the search for dynamic people with concerns to help ensure that the third age follow independent for much longer, thereby improving their quality of life.

Under the heading 'Combinat', Councilman, Antonio Calderon, today announced the voluntary solidarity program for seniors, which will launch three performances.

The first one focuses on a work of accompaniment, with assistance both in and outside their homes, the elderly and dependent, to keep them company, talk or run errands and daily tasks that can not carry out by themselves.

This action will take place throughout the year.

Then there is the Information Support program in which volunteers for a couple of hours a week, become masters of new technologies and teach those who want more basic knowledge of internet and computer, which recently is increasing demand in the clubs of the seniors.

Be held every Friday from 10 am to 12 noon in the computer room of the Youth Council, Paseo Alfonso XIII.

A third focus is on Assistance Outdoors: Hiking, to form a group of volunteers who participate with their own routes and activities accompany greater contact with nature.

This activity will be the first or last Friday of each month, beginning at 9 am and ending of 13.00 to 17.00, depending on the route to be organized.

Both in this activity as the other two mentioned, interested in joining this volunteer will receive a short training course taught by professionals from the Municipal Institute of Social Services.

On the other hand, Antonio Calderon has announced the launch of another project, the Chest of Experience, also within the Area Senior Volunteer Program, which aims to collect and use the knowledge and skills of retirees and pensioners and themselves provide the biggest clubs want him.

Finally, within the Municipal Volunteer Program, noting the creation deli Voluntary Commitment Award 2008, for the recognition of organized volunteer action in Cartagena, and specifically its main actors: the group of volunteers.
