The 'II Technical Workshop on development and environmental management of golf courses', held today and tomorrow at the Hyatt Regency La Manga, meet in the Region of Murcia to more than 350 people, of which a hundred from other communities.
The Director General of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control, Francisco Espejo, said that participation "far exceeds the figures of the First Conference" held in November 2007, at the Club de Golf Altorreal in Molina de Segura.
Espejo said "the interest" by the conclusion of this meeting which brings together in one forum for representatives of various government, private companies and developers around the world of golf, "something that has not been done in Spain," he said.
During the conference discussed inter alia the integration of golf courses in the natural environment, good maintenance practices, the golf courses as a source of biodiversity, land affected by waste, the challenge of sustainability and treatment urban wastewater for reuse in those fields.
These issues will be analyzed by technical staff from the departments of Agriculture and Water, Health, and the Segura basin, and representatives of business sector entities.
In Spain there are currently 360 golf courses in operation, of which 15 are in the Region of Murcia.
