IU Coordinator Cartagena, Victoria Rodriguez, today criticized the regional and local governments to "turn a deaf ear" to requests made by various organizations, among which is its political formation, to the implementation of a comprehensive plan of pollution.
Rodriguez was speaking after meeting the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) increased between 1990 and 2007, 98.9 percent in the region, as published in the report Emissions of Greenhouse Gases produced by the Workers' Commissions (CCOO .)
He said that "over half" of that volume pollutant is produced in the Valley of tailings (Cartagena), where there are more than 14 industries classified as "dangerous", and three combined cycle plants, as many cement and refinery oil.
Also, the local coordinator said that the report "confirms what UI and environmental groups have complained for more than two years," referring to "the repeated episodes of exceedances of various atmospheric pictures without the authorities taking appropriate action."
Expressed concern about the provision of extension and establishment of industries in the Valley of tailings without sustainability criteria, and requested the application of industrial development in the area that meets environmental principles.
"Nevertheless, the region and the city of Cartagena, which must be advised by the cousin of Mariano Rajoy, still turning a deaf ear to requests from environmental groups and IU," he concluded.
