The City of Cartagena, through the departments of Education, Culture and Social Services, participating for the first time in the VI Olympiad for Development Studies, an innovative initiative of the Spanish NGO Cooperation Youth for Development Cooperation seeks to promote interaction between solidarity, education and youth, to take place at a time in twelve different countries and 311 study rooms on 5 November to 5 December.
Councillor for Education, Josefa Maroto, explained that it has set up a joint study room at the Cultural Center Ramón Alonso Luzzy, which can go from Monday to Thursday from 17 to 20 hours.
Anyone who wants to participate in the project should approach the study room and go to one of two volunteers in charge of the room that will take the data you enter in the Olympics and give you your passport to study in solidarity to carry the count of the hours and euros achieved through their efforts in the study.
Once registered, you must decide how long they will study and the volunteer will give you the corresponding paper money: paper money is 1 hour and 1 ½ hours, equivalent to one euro and a euro and a half respectively.
Upon leaving, the volunteer will check the paper money, stamped and placed in a ballot box, write down the hours in the studio and completed passport control sheets.
The rest of the days to come to the study room will only be approached to volunteer to collect paper money and, once completed the study, asked to check their paper and seal it to insert it into the ballot box.
Mercedes Gascón, Head of Community Development Institute (CDI) - organizer of the project in the Region of Murcia - emphasized that it is making young people understand that their effort in the study can help young people from other countries are able to its time to study and live a better life.
Thus, money raised through these hours of study will aim to four projects in Ecuador, Cameroon, Haiti and Angola.
Specifically, the money raised in the Region of Murcia will be used to build a center for children, youth and women in Cameroon.
Last year the Murcia Region collected 27,000 euros, which helped to finance an education project for children at risk and training of volunteers in Ivory Coast.
