More than 30 tons of cardboard and lightweight packaging is collected in Cartagena in the last four years (20/10/2008)

In the past four years, since 2004 and dated January 1, 2008, in Cartagena had been collected over 30 tons of cardboard and lightweight packaging.

Of these, about 24 were valid for recycling, an amount that represented a turnover amounting to the City of 2,200,000 euros.

The Local Government Board has approved in its meeting today, joining the new Framework Cooperation Agreement between the Autonomous Community of Murcia and Ecoembalajes Spain, SA Under the agreement, the City receives a fixed monetary amount per container recycling of cardboard and lightweight packaging installed in the city, taking also into account other criteria such as the dispersal of these containers and the seasonality of different areas such as tourism during the summer.

With this amount is offset to the municipality for the costs arising from installation of specific containers for this waste and its collection and transport to the recycling plant.

The board is still more material is collected and recycled over 12 tonnes in the last four years, while light packaging division was a paid for up to 8 tons.

In the year 2008, and August 31, the total collection of cardboard and lightweight packaging has exceeded 5.4 tons, of which slightly more than 2 tons are made of cardboard and paper, and 1.4 tons refer to containers light.

A lack of accounting for the last quarter of the year, the city had logged nearly 500,000 euros for the recycling of these materials.
