González Tovar highlights investment of 41 million euros by the Government of Spain in the dock and the highway Escombreras (16/10/2008)

The Government delegate this morning visited the works to expand the Repsol refinery in tailings (Cartagena) which are budgeted for 3,262 million euros and are "the largest industrial investment in Spain" in the words of González Tovar.

This will double the current production capacity REPSOL to get the 11 million tons / year (220,000 barrels per day).

During the visit, the delegation has been accompanied by César Gallo Erena, executive director of refining Spain, and Francisco Vázquez González, director of the refinery, among others responsible for the company.

The delegate stressed that such an investment in the expansion of the refinery, scheduled to end July 2011, will generate 6,000 jobs in the peak period of building activity.

Subsequently clarified, "in the new plant will create about 700 new jobs direct hire (own staff and contractors) and 1,500 jobs created."

In both cases it will be stable and quality employment, with productivity and wage levels above the regional average.

For Gonzalez Tovar, "these new units, the Cartagena refinery will become one of the most modern and higher capacity of conversion of Europe."

In addition, he recalled "more than 50% of its production are middle distillates, mainly diesel, which will help reduce the large deficit of these products in Spain."

Precisely to promote industrial activity in Escombreras the delegate has decided to recall the significant investments being made by the Government of Spain in the area and which are included in the General State Budget for 2009 in regard to the highway and the tailings basin.

Highway Escombreras

Rafael González Tovar has reviewed the pace of the work of the Cartagena-Alumbres Highway and access to the tailings basin.

The highway, which has a budget of 15.6 M €, is in its final implementation phase and scheduled to open imminently.

The Government delegate highlighted the technical difficulties of the work ("we must bear in mind that in the final execution have had to deal with all types of transportation and industrial infrastructure) and pointed out that" this important action will flow and traffic safety access to tailings basin is characterized by a high percentage of heavy vehicles. "

Tailings basin

The delegate of the Government also announced that the Ministry of Development will invest 46 M € in 2009 in the ports of Cartagena, of which, 21.3 M € is earmarked for the extension of the Basin of tailings and 4.1 M € to land access to the extension of it.

For Gonzalez Tovar, these infrastructure investments the Government of Spain provides resources to businesses, workers and residents in the area.

At the same time, the significant industrial investment being made is being supplemented with state investment for both the arrival of raw materials through to the output port of goods by road.
