The councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, today introduced the activities taking place throughout this week for the XI Roma Cultural Week under the theme 'History and customs of the Gypsies', and that includes contests, creative workshops and dance, radio programs, children's activities and cultural activities.
The latter will be held on Friday, October 17 at the Military History Museum (Old Artillery), being the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, responsible for the opening of the conference at 11 am, highlighting the explanatory posters from all the editions of the week, creating an interactive space to meet the Roma culture through games and a conference on 'History of the Roma people. "
In the afternoon there will be children's theater by Ditirambo Theatre, an exhibition of dance and flamenco box, read a manifesto and prize contests, and as the finale, a Gala Flamenca with the group's performance Churumbaque Son, winner twice in the singing contest of the Minas Festival of La Union.
Antonio Calderon has stressed that efforts to end the prejudices about Roma began to publicize their customs, with performances like this week of the Roma Cultural already meeting its eleventh edition, which is actively working the City of Cartagena .
In this vein, the Social Care Councillor pointed out that the local government contribution to the Roma Development Plan amounts to 81,933 euros, and that effort must be maintained in the face to achieve equality.
For his part, Pedro Bautista, head of the Roma Forum in Cartagena, has been identified as major problems facing this town today marginalization and lack of training, which prevents them from getting a good job, but the group has a very ambitious mind about that soon you will be presented to Social Care Councillor.
At present there are about 2,500 Roma in Cartagena, a number that is growing, and only 25% are at serious risk of exclusion, since the rest will gradually integrating although, of course, retaining their identity.
In this regard, Pedro Bautista clarified that, while maintaining respect for the elderly, there are other issues that are trying to eliminate the tradition of girls out of school so they do not stay in school.
