The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, received this morning the new Maritime Action Admiral (ALMART), Emilio José Nieto Manso in formal visit following its recent takeover.
He has previously visited the government delegate in the Region and President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia.
After his visit, Manso Nieto explained that its main function is to realize the Navy's contribution to the action of sea state, supporting the work and responsibilities of other institutions.
ALMART link the new with the city of Cartagena began many years ago, with a first destination ensign in the Jorge Juan and later in the Valdés.
Since then, the relationship has continued over time.
Asked by journalists, Nieto Manso has indicated that all the necessary work with the authorities on illegal immigration in the region, by providing the same experience as Admiral in the Canaries, but pointed out that the powers are from the Ministry Interior, not Defense.
The new ALMART also noted that one of the most important issues for the coming years will be the development of the Law on Military Career.
With it, practitioners of the Navy will have a double degree, military and civilian, leading citizens to raise the option of national defense as an option valid and interesting work.
Finally, he referred to the important technological breakthrough which will provide the submarine S-80, which are built precisely in Cartagena.
