The Roman Theatre in Cartagena Museum has received a total of 22,136 visitors since its inauguration last July 11.
During the early days the flow averaged between 450 and 500 people, doubling that figure in August up to 900 people daily.
The Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Enrique Ujaldón, said the number of people "has exceeded all expectations set, the best estimates were around 5,000 visitors and the reality is that it has quadrupled."
In this sense, Ujaldón stressed that "this new museum infrastructure is a major boost to cultural tourism in our region."
More than half of the public who have visited this set comes from cultural tourism and national level, especially in Catalonia, Valencia, Alicante, Almeria, Madrid and Murcia.
For his part, 40 percent are from Europe: French, English, Portuguese, German and Italian.
The comprehensive project developed by Rafael Moneo has consisted not only in restoring the theater building, but has carried out also integrate the remains into the urban fabric, its adequate conservation and exhibition of educational and cultural purposes, and the construction of a monographic museum and research center annex.
