The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, received this morning the commander of the Italian national amphibious ship 'San Marcos' Captain Luca Bercini, accompanied by Admiral Polano, Italian Defence Attaché.
The training ship of the Italian Navy is making a stop in our city for five days for the rest of his crew, who take advantage of his stay here for sightseeing.
As he explained after visiting the commander, the training ship is conducting a two-month trial that has taken him to various ports, like Casablanca or Cartagena.
The training ship has a permanent crew of 170 people, plus 127 cadets from the Italian Naval Academy, many of them from North Africa, South America and Asia.
On the agenda of these visitors, including tours to the coast and the Roman Theatre Museum, and other professional use.
The ship San Marcos has 135 meters long, 26 wide and 7 draft, and displaces 7,960 tons fully loaded.
