The Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, through the Directorate General for Transport and Highways has done during the month of July refurbishment works to the highway to La Manga for a sum of 108,873 euros.
MU-312 road is a split road that leads to La Manga and has great traffic, especially in summer, as it gives access to the main beach areas like La Manga, Cabo de Palos, Playa Honda and Islands Minors, which means that wear is higher than normal.
Specifically, this route has a daily average of 23,000 vehicles per day (IMD), the second highest regional roads, being second only to San Javier highway.
The refurbishment works consist of road markings repainted road MU-312, in the main span as access roads, including roundabouts in these lanes, acceleration and deceleration, as well as upper and lower steps.
The proceedings began last July, at night, making the lines painted hot thermoplastic paint, which is almost instant drying, so it can be trampled by the vehicles immediately after application.
Thus, according to the director general of Transport and Highways, Carmen Sandoval, "the repainting has been done without cutting the traditional traffic cones, but it has done with trucks traveling at about 10 mph, using a mobile signaling that can advance the progress of the painting, thus allowing traffic to pass in the next lane. "
On the other hand, noted that "the painting that was used has a density of 3 kilograms per square meter instead of the usual 750 grams per square meter, so it will last four times higher than normal, which will allow that lasts over time. "
In addition, the right shoulder line has been painted with projections for improved visibility of the line in the rain.
The works have been carried out entirely at night, from 22 to 6 hours, so that, according to Sandoval "to the schedule for the works has barely affected the traffic, while guaranteeing the safety of workers ".
