What was once the Mentally Handicapped Occupational Center Quarry, will become a large youth center with areas dedicated to youth development, classroom testing, information point, classrooms, free Internet access, media library, playgrounds, laboratories Photography, classroom training for employment and hotel associations, among other uses, as noted by the councilman of Youth, Tourism and Employment, Javier Herrero.
Cartagena City Council has awarded Encarnación López Aguilar, SL (Eals), with a budget of 1,122,900 euros, reform and rehabilitation of this building for installation in the same center that collects all the leisure, employment and training for youth.
The building has a floor area of 4,070 square meters over four floors, while the ground floor designed community, the first floor spaces for young artists, the second floor to the associations and the attic will be a Centre for Astronomy, with points observation and exhibition halls.
For the training of young people will create workshops for carpentry, masonry and painting, three multipurpose classrooms and two new technologies as well as embroidery, pottery and papier mache.
Building reform involves two separate construction phases that can be opened to the public in part while running the works of phase two.
In the first phase works will be implemented in the west wing of the building and the second comprises the remaining units in the east wing of the same.
Once the contract is formalized and the work commences, they will last about 15 months.
