The municipality of Cartagena continues to increase its glass recycling figures.
The City Council and Ecovidrio (non-profit association) was created to manage collection and recycling of waste glass, took stock of the first quarter of 2008, showing a 10 percent increase over the same dates from 2007.
This increase adds to the already recorded in 2007, citizens of Cartagena placed a 2,511 tons of glass containers, 42.3 percent more than last year (2006).
This means that each inhabitant of Cartagena has recycled an average of 12kg of glass per year.
As pointed out by Councilman Safety, Services and Public Way, Enrique Pérez Abellán, much of this increase is due to the conciación citizens and the cooperation of neighbors, especially hoteliers, who regularly use the authorized collection systems specifically for them .
The glass collection is done through container characteristic that facilitates Ecocovidrio igloo.
One hundred percent of the deposited glass is recycled and used to manufacture new glass containers, making numerous environmental benefits.
The City of Cartagena, in conjunction with Ecovidrio and Camacho Recicling treated plant, will launch in coming months, an awareness campaign in the municipality to continue investing in the recycling of glass, this will give talks and meetings with AA.VV, schools, etc, and even made visits to the recycling plant, so that smaller products aware of the importance of this type of recycled glass for the public and maintaining our environment.
