The councilman of Social Care area, Antonio Calderón, accompanied by the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena Francisco Martínez, yesterday visited the farm Thomas Lo Ferro in Palma, where participants in Senior Leisure Gardens "were" working their land.
This initiative comes through a collaboration agreement with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the Municipal Institute of Social Services to create an alternative leisure and free time training for retired older persons through the creation and maintenance small plots, while promoting the preservation of the agricultural tradition of Campo de Cartagena.
The leisure gardens consist of small plots of land (between 50 and 100 m2) for the cultivation of local produce from the garden: vegetables, legumes, plants, etc., In order of consumption of products and never on the marketing.
People who are participating in this project, show great satisfaction, because the crop in orchards, allows them to conduct a physical and mental exercise, while that promotes coexistence between them, talks about crops and improvements, solidarity and mutual aid .
