The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the Director General of Environmental Quality, Francisco Espejo, this morning visited the facilities of a new EcoPark in the municipality of Cartagena, situated between the urbanization of the trough, the Barrio San José Obrero and Marfagones Mills.
This is the second collection for the special domestic waste which comes into operation after the Asomada, opened last year.
As noted by the mayor, the EcoPark in La Asomada has collected in one year a total of 174 tonnes of waste, being 90 of them with debris.
Results that have been made possible thanks to collaboration and public awareness, as they are the same citizens begin the process of collection in their own homes.
These new facilities, in particular, provide service to the west side of town.
Its construction has been carried out by the Directorate General of Environmental Quality Department of Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning of the Autonomous Region of Murcia, through the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.
To these must be added which is already under construction in the vicinity of Los Belones, which will serve the entire coastline of the municipality, and the mobile recycling center, which will be presented next week, as announced by the mayor, and that will service to those neighborhoods and farther from the provincial town.
All these facilities make Cartagena, Barreiro said, is one of the more advanced municipalities in the collection of all types of waste.
Ecoparks are the infrastructure for the collection of special household waste, its characteristics (nature, composition, volume, etc.) Should not be put into the containers already installed on the street.
This is the case of cooking oils, furniture, appliances, debris, batteries and batteries, fluorescent tubes, the remains of pruning and gardening, computers, etc.
Debris in the Ecoparks are removed periodically by waste management companies approved by the administration that are responsible for transporting them to their various final destinations, whether by recycling, recovery or reuse.
Thus, the EcoPark be understood as a collection facility and temporary storage of waste.
The trough of the EcoPark is built on a plot of 2,000 square meters (as described in the General Plan General Systems) and has the following infrastructure:
A control booth.
A building of special household waste.
Environmental education classroom, toilets and storage (77 m2).
An area for bulky waste disposal.
A building protected from the elements for non-special waste or bulky.
A parking area.
Green areas.
Interior circulation road.
Internal networks and providing sanitation, and electricity.
The main peculiarity of this Ecoparque regarding existing at the Asomada is the Environmental Education Workshop, which from next year to be conducted workshops and other educational activities related to waste management, aimed at school children and to residents of the area.
The EcoPark will run from Monday to Friday, hours between 8.30 and 13.30 and 15.30 and 18.00 hours and on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 13.00 pm.
During the hours of operation, the EcoPark will be controlled by an operator who will be responsible for identifying citizens who wish to deposit any waste, to verify that these are delivered in accordance with the conditions and to direct users to the point where must deposit.
This second EcoPark will to serve the people of the western city of Cartagena, mainly to the trough, Las Lomas, San Jose Obrero, Marfagones Mills, Quarries, and urbanization Tentegorra Mediterranean, among others.
The construction budget has hovered around the 185,000 euros.
Throughout the Region, commented the Director General of Environmental Quality, Francisco Espejo, 45 and 20 points Ecoparks phones, a complete network of facilities that result in improved environmental quality.
