The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, and the mayor of La Unión, Bernabe Francisco this morning signed a collaboration agreement to promote and develop joint projects in both towns, among which is the creation of a light rail line between the Union and Cartagena, and the conversion of the old N-332 road linking the two populations, on the boulevard.
As the mayor explained the signing of the agreement, the protocol of collaboration will capitalize on the money from both municipalities without creating new instruments that entail greater costs to the citizens.
We want management to be more efficient, faster and involves a saving in the resources of the two councils, he said, and it is a way of territorial organization.
Thus, the first joint projects will be the conversion of the old N-332 in an avenue of urban character, to be called Minera Sierra Avenue, and is configured as a grand boulevard that Cartagena and La Union, as well as El Algar .
This boulevard will have sidewalks, lighting and bike lanes throughout the tour.
It is transformed into street that is now a road.
It will be a stretch of about 14 kilometers long, with eight miles between Cartagena and La Union three miles that run inside the Union, and three kilometers from La Union in El Algar.
The mayor explained that this conversion Boulevard is already covered by the advance of the General Plan of Cartagena, and presents itself like a great avenue Paseo Alfonso XII and the Alameda de San Antón.
The proposed conversion of the old N-332 in Avenue includes the transformation of LVEF in a tram, built in the same mall, one of its sides.
It aims to promote the use of urban transport, with performances like the bonoticket, similar to that in Cartagena.
Barreiro said that the promotion of public transport in Cartagena, with heavy investment in buses and pedestrian center, it is meaningless if it is abandoned as the FEVE transport that works with great satisfaction in other Spanish cities.
Therefore, one of the joint requirements FEVE will be made to modernize these facilities, with a strong investment that benefits both the Cartagena and La Union.
The intention, according to the mayor, is that over time the tram around the area of Cartagena and connect with Torre Pacheco and Fuente Alamo, getting together and the natural region of Cartagena.
Under this collaboration agreement, the City of Cartagena share municipal services with La Union, such as CATAD and Municipal Restoration Workshop.
Also, both councils are already working to bring water to Los Camachos through an agreement with Aquagest.
As explained by the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, the agreement also includes the twinning of the festival La Mar de Músicas and El Cante de las Minas.
With these two important festivals are the tourist and cultural destination of the entire Mediterranean coast, he said.
For this reason, efforts will be pooled together to promote both espectáculos.También in tourism, the consortium Sierra Minera maintain a strong partnership with the Port of Cultures and La Manga del Mar Menor to 'sell' the attractions outside of the areas involved.
Finally, Barnabas has indicated that it intends to mentally handicapped center of La Union, Andrés Martínez Cánovas Foundation, which also serves students from the region of Cartagena, to become a permanent center and residential to provide a complete service family.
