The councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, and the Vice Chancellor for Student and University Extension, Francisco Martinez, have signed this morning a partnership agreement to develop a shared housing program between college students and older in the municipality.
This program is integrated into the City of Voluntary Plan will be released next September.
Shared housing program is based, as explained Antonio Calderón, is an initiative based on mutual aid and intergenerational solidarity, which aims to answer the one hand, the company and support needs of older people, and the other to the housing needs of university students during the academic year.
Older people provide, through this program, free accommodation at home and in return receive student collaboration, task management and monitoring in general.
Calderon has stressed that the technical teams of the council shall adjust the profiles of each other for better living.
The council has said that the last census conducted on elderly Cartagena reveals that about 6,000 of them are living alone.
For its part, the Vice Chancellor for Students, Francisco Martinez, said that this agreement is a complement in the interaction from the University is to young and old.
Today, more than two hundred elderly people related to the University, who share classrooms with young people.
They are joining two segments of the population that initially are separated, he said, and to offer a best student accommodation, as happens in other Spanish universities.
Seniors who opt for this program must be over 50 years, with a house appropriate to student needs and independently staffed.
Young people also must meet certain requirements.
Social Care will offer financial assistance to seniors who take advantage of this program, by way of common expenses that may result from living with the student.
