The Minister of Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning, Benito Mercader, and Deputy Business Area 'La Caixa' in the Mar Menor, Gerard Cuartero, presented this morning the rehabilitation project of the Roman road-Atamaria Portman and environment Barranco del Moro, in Calblanque Regional Park, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila, environmental and cultural use of visitors.
The presentation also has been the council's Town Planning and Sustainable Development of the City of Cartagena, Joaquin Segado.
Benito Mercader stressed that the recovery of the Roman road and improvement of the Barranco del Moro, in collaboration with 'La Caixa', demonstrates the firm commitment of the Department not only to preserve our natural heritage, but to adapt to the enjoyment of all people.
The best way for all of us to preserve our natural heritage is to know.
This project, one year with an investment of 200,000 euros, has focused on two areas of concentration.
On the one hand, the restoration of the Roman road-Atamaria Portman and its surroundings, respecting the means to compose and its original layout, removing the vegetation that invades, adapting the existing firm and the walls.
With these actions has managed to improve accessibility and facilitate the transit of citizens in the area, as well as curb the factors altering the plant area and historic monument.
The second part of the project is based on the immediate natural environment through silvicultural treatments, thereby improving the status of degraded habitats or threatened the protected area and the elimination of waste and existing discharges.
Also restored the Barranco del Moro by cleaning up waste, gully filling, watering plants and restoration help.
The Minister of Sustainable Development has assured that they are restoring all plant and forest areas near the Roman road.
These works, together with other actions to be performed in the Regional Park Calblanque allow for better conservation of this protected area.
It also welcomed the collaboration Merchant 'la Caixa', which contributes to the Ministry in promoting sustainable management of natural areas.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Planning and Social Work 'La Caixa' signed an agreement with the fundamental objective of promoting a series of actions for the improvement and conservation of the most significant natural areas in the Region of Murcia.
To this end, the bank provides a total of 3.75 million euros in three years.
ROMAN ROAD
The origin of the Roman road-Atamaria Portman, located in the Regional Park Calblanque, dates from the period in which it functioned as the principal point of liaison with the Mar Menor.
This road has been used until the early twentieth century, when they built the present road that passes over it.
Currently, some 2,700 meters retain original paving of the road.
For its part, the Regional Park Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila is located in the eastern portion of the coastline of the Murcia region, between the towns of Cartagena and La Union.
This area is protected natural area since 1987 and Regional Park since 1992.
Calblanque notable for its environmental and ecological diversity.
Features spectacular sandy beaches, sandy bands, arid mountains, cliffs and salt of exceptional ecological value.
