The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, visited this morning, together with the Councillor for Education, Josefa Maroto, teachers and mothers, the nursery school public school Luis Grille, Santa Ana
This nursery, which began three years ago as a small garden at the initiative of parents of students, is conducted by their own school and has since its inception with support from the Department of Education.
In the garden are planted all kinds of edible foods, from lettuce to tomatoes, squash and sunflowers through, which are then purchased by parents.
The mayor praised the initiative, which allows the smallest known commodity of good nutrition and the value of water for crop irrigation and, above all, the collaboration of the association of parents of students in progress of the project.
Barreiro has said it will study the possibility to expand the garden to grow more crops and has said it will seek to transfer this activity to other schools, provided the space and the collaboration of parents allow it.
