The local government, and especially from the Department of Quality of Life and Social Services, whose priority the implementation of activities carried out by combat poverty and build a fairer society.
Following this line of work, the government team is preparing a proposal to the city of Cartagena to opt for the European project of Urban ERDF Innovative Actions (UIA), which has a budget of five million euros, aimed containing educational and training intervention in neighborhoods suffering some form of social exclusion.
In this regard, yesterday began contacts and meetings with neighbors, groups and municipal associations to join this initiative, a working meeting chaired by the mayor, Jose Lopez.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejon;
the mayors of Quality of Life, Social Services and Education, Francisco Calderon, Carmen Martin and David Martinez, respectively;
and the manager of the Municipal Society of Cartagena Casco Antiguo, Antonio Garcia;
and the manager of the Agency of Local Development and Employment, Diego Peñarrubia.
The project, which would last three years, provides for the development of experimental work in areas of the city that are most affected by poverty and social exclusion.
The action in each district will be comprehensive and will target both residents and the urban environment and infrastructure.
The actions will be structured around five areas: education, employment, housing, urban environment and community involvement.
