The area councilor of Culture and Archaeological Heritage of the City of Cartagena, Ricardo Segado has sent a cartaga representatives of Hispania Nostra, inviting them to come to Cartagena to know the reality of the local patriomnio punished the abandonment and suffering by tegional of administration.
The letter is expressed in these terms:
As Head of Culture and Archaeological Heritage of the City of Cartagena I want to invite the representatives of the Association for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage, Hispania Nostra, to visit the region of Cartagena for them to know, first hand, the state heritage present in our environment, and the degree of involvement of the CARM for the preservation and presentation of the rich heritage of Cartagena and Shire.
It is known that Hispania Nostra produces the Red List of World Heritage, picking up on the same elements of the Spanish Historical Heritage that are in obvious risk of disappearance, destruction or alteration of their values.
To this list, Cartagena and Shire bring nineteen monuments and sites, being the area of the region most affected by this situation.
Examples are the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara, the Chapels of Monte Miral, the Palace of Asdrubal, the Castillo de la Atalaya, the windmills, the battery Ashes, or Moorish Castle, to name Some.
Since the local government regional government claim greater closeness and sensitivity, the same as has been demonstrated in the city of Murcia for the recovery of the site of San Esteban and its surroundings, a project that has been involved with a significant financial contribution.
If so, we are convinced that the association Hispania Nostra in Cartagena show it expressed satisfaction that the process undertaken by the CARM and the city of Murcia to recover San Esteban.
Cartagena's government wants to satisfy the same way the members of this association.
For this we need the thrust of the Government must ensure with equal zeal for all citizens of the region and ensure that the systematic neglect that have undergone the heritage of Cartagena and its region is no more than a memory of the past.
