This Sunday morning the port of Cartagena became the stage where the anonymous victims who have died at sea fleeing war were honored.
The mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, wanted to join this solidarity initiative where we want to bring awareness to the suffering and the problems that these refugees and immigrants face when they decide to leave their countries and are a Europe closed and the defensive.
The event also gave appointment Ana Belen Castejon, Deputy Mayor of Cartagena;
and Maria del Carmen Martin, Councillor for Social Services and Social Mediation;
Obdulia Gómez, Councillor for Tourism and converting industry and David Martinez, Councillor for Culture.
The monument whale tail was located in the port where many citizens gathered to honor the memory of the 3,771 immigrants who died in the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea during the past year, more than 1,000 were children and as solidarity with their families and impoverished people or victims of wars and violence.
These are the reasons that push everyday many people to find another place in the world where you can enjoy a decent life.
This initiative is repeated for the third consecutive year thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Social Services, the Circle of Silence of Cartagena, Cepaim, Red Cross, Caritas Los Mateos, La Huertecica, and Rascasa Welcomes Murcia.
