Various associations and groups in the city have joined forces to organize next Sunday 31 solidarity work on behalf of immigrants and refugees who have lost their lives at sea.
This initiative repeated for the third consecutive year thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Social Services, the Circle of Silence of Cartagena, Cepaim, Red Cross, Caritas Los Mateos, La Huertecica, and Rascasa Welcomes Murcia.
The goal is to honor the memory of the 3,771 immigrants who died in the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea during 2015 - more than 1,000 were children - as well as solidarity with their families and impoverished people or victims of wars and violence.
These are the reasons that push everyday many people to find another place in the world where you can enjoy a decent life.
The mayor, Jose Lopez, and Deputy Mayor, Ana Belen Castejon, will attend this event where we want to bring awareness to the suffering and problems that these refugees and immigrants face when they decide to leave their countries and are a Europe closed and defensive.
They will also be the area councilor Quality of Life, Francisco Calderon, and the Councillor for Social Services, Carmen Martin, who will join the meeting and the purpose of promoting a culture of acceptance, respect, tolerance and solidarity, as well as making understand that migrate and seek asylum is a fundamental and universal right.
The stage of this activity will be the port, on the esplanade of the dock next to the tail of the whale, and is scheduled for 12:00 am.
