Cartagena anti-rumor Strategy commitment to promote intercultural (22/01/2016)

Team members Government and municipal officers met with Daniel de Torres, an expert on migration and diversity, to discuss this initiative is to dismantle prejudices and stereotypes about certain groups

In order to address the issue of diversity of the city and take steps to strengthen coexistence and cohesion among citizens held yesterday a meeting between the Head of REA Quality of Life, Francisco Calderon;

Councillor for Social Services, Carmen Martin;

the Transparency, Maria Jose Soler;

Councillor CTSSP municipal group, Pilar Marcos;

Chief Communication mayor, Ángel rate;

Head of the City Press and Protocol, Lalo Gomez Vizcaino, the coordinator of Social Services, Damian Perez, and the coordinator of Prevention and Social Programs, Lucia Hernandez.

The morning continued with a workshop attended by fifty representatives of various councils of the City of Cartagena, of schools and institutions of Social Action of the municipality.

The reason for this workshop was to present the principles of anti-rumor Strategy, an innovative initiative is being promoted in various Spanish and European cities to dismantle prejudices, negative stereotypes and false rumors about certain groups such as immigrants, as they are the main barriers to positive interaction between citizens in the context of increasing cultural diversity, as in our city.

The aim is to strengthen social cohesion and coexistence, prevent discrimi- and opportunities also poses socio-cultural diversity.

During the meeting the methodology followed in this initiative and some examples of work applied in other municipalities studied.

The session concluded with an exchange of experiences and questions from attendees Daniel de Torres, an expert on innovative policies for managing diversity and multiculturalism of the Council of Europe, several cities and other organizations such as the Organization of American States (OEI).

At this time a rich technical debate emerged.

Intercultural Cities NETWORK OF SPAIN (RECI)

The City of Cartagena is part of the Network of Intercultural Cities of Spain (RECI) since 2011, one of the promoters and founding cities.

The RECI is a good scenario for the exchange of experiences and best practices in order to foster the further development of their policies and actions related to diversity.

In this city of Cartagena accession could be in different national and European scenarios, demonstrating the value their work on integration policies.
