Businessman Eugenio Galdon this morning has taken over as the new president of the Board of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).
The event, which was held at the Rector, has enjoyed the presence of the President of the Autonomous Community, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, the Minister of Universities, Maria Isabel Sanchez Mora, the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela and members Social Council.
During his speech, Galdón has expressed concerns about the employability of graduates and the gender gap between engineering students.
Galdon cited a report according to which two-thirds of graduates not working on what they have studied.
In addition, he has stressed that there must be a real connection with society and believes in the public university "as a lever for social development".
Finally, he added that the multi-year funding approved by the regional government is "the right way" for the development of the University.
Eugenio Galdón is the founder of ONO and was its president until November 2008. In addition, he has held several senior positions in the Public Administration and was chief of staff of the Prime Minister.
