Although the palms of Cartagena undergo different pesticide treatments for healthy and keep in good condition, there are some who have survived the disease by insect pests known as red palm weevil.
Therefore, throughout this week, the City of Cartagena, through its unit of Parks and Gardens, is making efforts to restore the image of the square of Heroes of Cavite and Santiago de Cuba.
The work involves cutting logs fourteen Canary palms that have been affected by the weevil.
Once felled trunks, is proceeding to start cepellones sizable and replacement of these palm trees by the same number of copies of Mediterranean species of date palm that are produced domestically.
It is planned that, once prepared holes, the transplant takes place on Thursday, December 3.
