The Municipal Group recorded a motion to urge the City of Cartagena to increase the number of troops of the section on 'Judicial Police and Victim Protection (SJPV)' of the local police, including at least two agents services each shift
Cartagena, Monday 09 November-.
Violence against women remains one of the biggest problems of social unrest in Spain.
According to the Agency for Fundamental Rights of the European Union (FRA), one in five Spanish has experienced physical or sexual violence, and victims, fewer than one fifth reported to the police the more serious assault.
Faced with this problem, was created in 2010 under "Judicial Police and Victim Protection (SJPV)" within the Local Police of Cartagena, with the main objective of addressing the social issues surrounding violence against women through functions such as enforcement of restraining orders, custody of foster homes for abused, or rapid processing of orders of protection dictated by the court.
However, that section is today its resources depleted, since it has a low number of agents.
This led to the closure of the section this summer for several days at different times.
Specifically, he was no service agent on July 21 afternoon and night shifts of 22, 23 and 24 July.
In addition, the local police in Cartagena called last September, the attention to the fact that in eight days, had made a fortnight-related violence in the family interventions.
Furthermore, this shortage of personnel not only means that the victims remain defenseless against the danger, but also threatens the very integrity of the police given that, since the summer until now, at every turn only has a single cash, sometimes real risk situations in interventions occur.
Police also complain that, despite being short of effective, have to take care of other duties as conducting preliminary investigation in cases of crimes and misdemeanors, monitoring of school absenteeism, abandonment of children, safeguarding locations permanent, and custody of drugs until they are brought to justice.
In all, police said section matches more than a dozen obligations.
From Citizens fear that if the City Council gives no additional personnel to section coverage safety that abused women are left unattended in the municipality, and even can lead to an uncertain future for this police section.
