On June 3 Mandarache Cartagena Young Readers Award, which was awarded in 2014 with the National Prize for the Promotion of Reading, organized collective action called #MandaracheBookmob reading that broke all expectations of participation, making more than 5,000 people join in this flashmob of readers.
The action, including within the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the project organized by the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena, was to get hundreds of people read at a time for 15 minutes in public spaces to express somehow the power readers and celebrate reading as an act of communication and in this case a symbolic exercise of active citizenship.
Reader action had two official points, the Book Fair of Madrid and the Plaza Juan XXIII in Cartagena, but the idea quickly spread through social networks and dozens of bodies scattered throughout the country got excited and started to first register as #MandaracheBookmob official points.
In Madrid, for example, the National Library of Spain, the Library of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (ESSN), the Library of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University or the Virtual Center Leer.es.
Also municipal libraries and schools of Extremadura, Cadiz, Granada, Castilla La Mancha joined this celebration, as well as the Region of Murcia.
The surprise came when Paraguay centers, Hungary and Poland were enrolled.
Mandarache Award organized activity within the official program of the Madrid Book Fair, taking advantage of the presentation of the project in the context of reading experiences of good practice in the promotion of reading organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports days .
Participants and organizations were encouraged to upload photos to social networks and videos with the hashtag #MandaracheBookmob or send them by mail to the organization that has received more than 800 files and has compiled in a video posted on the official Youtube channel Award Mandarache.
