The Bureau of Animal Welfare of the City of Cartagena has been formally constituted this morning under the chairmanship of Councillor of Greater Quality of Life, Francisco Calderon and Secretary of the Board include the head of Health of the City of Cartagena, Miguel Fernandez.
Also they attended by the Councillor of Greater Finance and Interior, Francisco Aznar;
the councilor of Education, David Martinez, and representatives of the other political groups.
Francisco Calderon has declared his satisfaction with the formation of a bureau which will deal exclusively with monitoring issues that arouse a special sensitivity in society, the Animal Welfare.
The training of officers came a day after the Information Committee of Finance, held yesterday, communicate the removal of the current adoption rate of animals in the Shelter and Treatment of Domestic Animals (CATAD), including vaccination and Pet sterilization.
This measure, which shall be endorsed on the Municipal Council of Thursday, seeks to facilitate the adoption of pets.
The Bureau of Animal Welfare will have as main function, promote awareness policies to ensure responsible pet adoptions, pet avoid abandonment, monitor compliance with the Law on Protection and Keeping of Animals;
plus access to all the ordinances and municipal licenses related to this area, among other functions.
Some concrete measures that have been addressed is the participation of the UNED and UPCT to promote among its students respect the animal, coming to raise the UNED, the possibility of creating free credits for students who work with associations or collective defense animal welfare.
On the other hand, it has stated that the City will amend the ordinance relating to pets.
The Bureau of Animal Welfare will be established consultative status and bring initiatives to adapt the new ordinance.
The Animal Welfare Board will meet on a monthly basis, and is organized in two working groups: One will deal with the legal aspects and another that will focus on proposals for discussion, implementation of programs and so on.
La Mesa, which is open to potential new members, is made up of different groups: Local Police, Seprona, UNED, UPCT CATAD, College of Veterinary, animal welfare, legal services of the City, technicians of the Department of Health, as well representatives of all political groups of the Municipal Corporation.
