Established commission for the implementation of Historical Memory (16/09/2015)

This afternoon has been formed municipal working committee for the implementation of the so-called Law of Historical Memory in the city of Cartagena, especially as it relates to street names, symbols and public monuments.

The creation of this commission had been agreed by the full City Council with the aim that before December 31 may issue an opinion on the measures to be taken for compliance.

The state law passed in 2007 states inter alia, that the government take appropriate measures for the removal of shields, badges, plaques and other commemorative objects or references of exaltation, personal or collective, the military uprising, the Civil War and repression of the dictatorship, although the assumptions except that the references are strictly private memory, without exaltation of opposing, or where there is artistic, architectural or artistic-religious reasons protected by law.

For this, the government should develop a catalog of relics relating to the Civil War and the dictatorship.

This will be the work of the committee which is chaired by the council area of Finance and Interior, Francisco Aznar, and with Francisco Calderon, area councilor Quality of Life, as vice president.

By representatives from the five local groups and the Federation of Neighborhood Associations it is integrated.

The first decision you take will be creating technical working groups, which shall be composed of historians and experts designated by each of the municipal groups, which studied case by case and will provide the necessary technical reports.
