The Local Government of the City of Cartagena in its forward meeting Monday, approved the accession of Cartagena to the inter-city network to receive refugees. Today's proposal had been submitted by the council area of Quality of Life, Health, Consumer Affairs and Environment, Francisco Calderon, and referred to the historical friendly, supportive, tolerant and multicultural character of the city and its inhabitants;
while declaring the desire to support and promote all measures that favor the refugees, from other territories, they may be welcomed and protected in the city of Cartagena and seek solutions that respond to the plight of these persons.
The initiative also recalled that Cartagena is one of the founders of the Network of Intercultural Cities of Spain (RECI) has signed with the Council of Europe a commitment by respect for their fundamental values, especially human rights, principles of democracy and the rule of law foundation.
It was also emphasized that this municipal government wanted to voice the feelings of all Cartagena to the sad images that accompany us daily and demonstrate the humanitarian tragedy that our society is suffering.
