Polytechnic students succeed in Scotland (31/08/2015)

They will achieve a double degree of Spanish engineering and Masters in UK, get the highest scores and are even surf coaches

Carlos Villanueva Prendes and Sergio Mendez Delegido, two students from the School of Industrial Polytechnic University of Cartagena, depart Wednesday to Scotland, to attend the second year of the master's degree in mechanical engineering from Edinburgh Napier University.

When completed, they will have two titles, the master of the UK and the Spanish engineering, thanks to the dual degree agreement enjoyed by a dozen students each year UPCT.

In your case you have two separate room for wetsuits, because both coaches will be surfing team of Scottish university.

It is a curious note of academic success reaching each course, students of the Polytechnic of Cartagena in Scotland.

"It is no coincidence that the best grades are always students UPCT" says Carlos, who last year made the Honorous Project (similar to TFG) more valued among almost a hundred partners.

It is not an isolated case.

"It is common among the seven top scores for each subject five students are UPCT" he says.

In his case it carries a 80.7 average, only a few tenths more than Sergio, who will share floor.

The two scores are comfortably above 70 points, the minimum entitling the holder as a 'First Class', a distinction is especially valued in the labor market.

"Companies expressly required by the job.

Because they know that this is easy to get approved, but very difficult to get high marks.

Reward the effort, "they reason.

In fact, last year one of the students of the Polytechnic who were rewarded for their good in Napier was immediately hired by a gas company.

"The preparation has given us here UPCT least equivalent to a master.

The level of demand of the Polytechnic of Cartagena is very high and has nothing to envy the famous universities in Britain, "they explained the students, who made the first three years of the degree Campus Muralla and when finished in Scotland They have validated the fourth year thanks to the dual degree agreement.

Grants from the Scottish government

Students at the Polytechnic of Cartagena studying in Napier not pay the expensive tuition of British universities.

They are awarded grants by the Scottish government.

"It's a smart investment because they want to stay with the best professionals from around the world," argues Sergio.

"In Scotland there are many options to work as an engineer with more than decent wages and working conditions.

There do not provide itself abusive and real opportunities for access to company practices "details.

The language is not a problem for these students, who are required to access the program B2 level.

"The University is fully focused on international students, there is little Scottish.

The teachers are also mostly foreigners, which facilitates understand what they say.

I find it difficult to understand people on the street, "he says.

"The best decision"

"What I like most is the city.

In Edinburgh there is always something to do, and the University encouraged to participate in sports or music groups.

In addition, there are fewer classes and more free time.

And the best part is that the third quarter is for recoveries, so that we passed we are on holiday from May! "Exclaims Carlos.

"I'm ashamed to say it."

Even the weather has been adapted.

"The worst thing is the temperature of the sea.

The good day is 6 degrees.

I've had to buy a new wetsuit, "says Carlos.

It is also a paste the high standard of living in Scotland.

"My parents are making a great effort, but I know I do a double degree has been the best decision of my life.

Having an engineering degree in Spanish and one in English is going to open doors around the world, "he argues.

"We are grateful to the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and particularly the International Relations and Mathieu Kessler, for helping us enjoy this great opportunity," he concludes.
