The final conference Building Inclusive Societies was held last week in the Committee of the Regions in Brussels, with the contribution of the European Community, Diversity and Local Economic Integration (DELI) and Communication for Integration (C4I) week.

Among the 21 cities all over Europe who were present, Cartagena attended as a member of the Spanish Network of Intercultural Cities (RECI) and the development of the pilot project was DELI.

The aim has been to transfer knowledge and good practices identified and developed common problems facing cities with respect to immigration and their responses, eliminate barriers and rumors, encouraged integration not only socially but also different perspectives that affect the economy of the city and the development of self-employment.

Among the actions taken by these projects have created a platform for dialogue at local level both business associations, banks, large companies and heads of municipal departments to understand the social and economic benefits of cultural diversity in cities and how they translate into one promoting the local economy and its benefits.

These projects have been led by the Council of Europe funded by the Directorate General of Internal Affairs of the European Commission and the European Integration Fund.

Among those who attended Gudrun Mosler, President of the Regions Committee of the European Union, Torbjorn Froysnes, Ambassador and President of the European Council in Brussels, Marta Cygan, Director of Social Affairs DG of the European Commission, who were in their exhibition exposed the lines of work in Europe towards political integration and the role of local authorities.

At this final conference they were attended by experts from the Department of Social Services and the Agency of Local Development and Employment, responsible for the project Deli and a representative of the Association of Autonomous troubadours, as project partners.
