Awarded in two congresses UPCT a researcher to demonstrate that new solar cells are not dangerous (19/06/2015)

The European conference on stability of solar cells (ESOS Conference), held in Corsica, has awarded researcher at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Lucia Serrano for their research on perovskite new solar cells, which show that the lead containing no danger.

The award, which distinguishes his poster as one of the three best papers presented at the conference, in addition to that already received in May in Lille, in the congress European Materials Research Society.

Lucia Serrano, research group 'Quantum Energy' that directs Antonio Urbina, found, along with fellow PhD from the UPCT Nieves Espinosa, that the level of lead perovskite cells is minimal.

"The keys we use every day carry a thousand times more lead and 600 square meters of perovskite cells would be needed to meet the 222 mg of lead per kilo can be sediment on the roads," exemplifies.

"The thing to do is encapsulate well the cells, because salt is where lead is very soluble" he adds.

Solar cells perovskite are translucent, very light, easily adaptable to different media and have shown their efficiency in power generation.

"Similar to those of silicon with much lower weight and material yields are achieved," he explains.

The researcher at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena becomes very satisfied with the new gained recognition in a meeting in which participated some of the best photovoltaic experts from Europe.

After the congress, will collaborate on a study of the multinational Abengoa and participate in a new international conference here in Scotland.
