The program helps PLAIME musical education for children with disabilities developed by researcher Maria Dolores Cano Bathrooms and student Antonio Manuel Martínez Red, both from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), has been selected for the European awards "Tell Us Awards "as one of the regional winners who will participate in the final to be held this June in Paris in the events of the international congress of educational innovation 'Futur en Seine'.
The PLAIME software (acronym for Platform for Integration of Children with Disabilities in Music Education) is a training program with theory, exercises and games to help students with various disabilities to learn basic notions of music and playing the flute .
"The program does not substitute music teacher, but that helps students with special needs do not slip through the rest of the class," explains Professor Cano, a professor at the School of Telecommunications Engineering of the Polytechnic.
Students can also games and exercises at home and teachers can configure the level and characteristics of each child.
The program was developed by Dr. Cano and Antonio Manuel Martinez exalumo Red and implemented in a pilot for ten weeks at a school in Murcia with 15 students with disabilities by the doctoral student in UPCT Ramon Sanchez Iborra.
"The experience showed a very positive impact on students in terms of musical learning, use of ICT tools and cognitive and behavioral skills," recounted.
The team has joined the entrepreneur Igor Tasic, responsible for business development, internationalization project and contact with potential investors interested in marketing the software.
