Cartagena hosts a dozen activities marking the European Maritime Day, announced today the CEO of Citizen Participation, European Union External Action, Manuel Pleguezuelo, noting that these events "will help to reflect the importance of the sea this week in our daily lives, the economy and job creation. "
Under the title 'Blue growth through our coasts and ports' activities program is organized by the Autonomous Community, the City of Cartagena, the Naval and Marine Technology Centre (cTNM) and the Port Authority begins today, in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology.
Manuel Pleguezuelo recalled that the European Maritime Day was officially established on May 20, 2008, by a tripartite declaration signed by the Presidents of Parliament, the EU Council and the European Commission.
"The main objective is to highlight the crucial role that oceans and seas play in the everyday life of the inhabitants of coastal areas and all citizens of the European Union and its contribution to sustainable growth and employment in Europe, thus contributing to the objectives of the Integrated Maritime Policy ", said Pleguezuelo.
The European Maritime Day this year focuses on the role of ports and coasts access comomotores blue growth;
issues such as job creation, sustainability and competitiveness in the maritime regions focus events organized around this day throughout Europe.

Program
Marine experts will attend the conference organized by the cTNM on underwater noise, to be held on Thursday, August 28, at the premises of the center in Fuente Alamo.
Friday will discuss the importance of ports as catalysts of economic activity and job creation in the conference organized by the Port of Cartagena, and to be held in the Port Authority in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and Jovellanos Maritime Rescue Center.
To this the open days of the Port of Cartagena, free rides on the harbor on 26, 27, 28 and 29, the possibility of embarking for whale watching or diving and snorkeling in Cartagena, Cabo de Palos, Aguilas bind and Mazarrón, thanks to the collaboration of the Association of Diving Centers in the Region of Murcia.
Besides these catamaran rides, it has also organized a photo contest, seminars, conferences and workshops, culminating Friday with the issuance of a special radio program (Onda Cero) from the port and a point of information center Europe Direct Murcia on the esplanade of Alfonso XII Pier.
