Researchers at a Swedish university develop his thesis on exoskeletons Polytechnic (28/04/2015)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena continues to increase its capacity to attract foreign research talent after agreeing with the head of the European project Exo-Legs, Gurvinder Singh Virk, two PhD students under his direction in Gävle University College (Sweden) completed his thesis PhD in UPCT with the shared leadership of Juan López Coronado.

The collaboration between the two universities was the object of the meeting between the rector, José Antonio Franco, the Swedish researcher and university Coronado, head of Exo-Legs project at the Polytechnic.

Doctoral students from Gävle University College will be tutored by researchers Neurotechnology Group, Control and Robotics (Neurocor), whose members are part of the doctoral program in Industrial Technologies UPCT.

The Exo-Legs project, funded by the AAL (Ambient Assisted Living) European program, aims to develop exoskeletons to help people with mobility problems, both stand, like walking on different surfaces and up and down stairs.

These ergonomic devices attached to the legs capture the intention of moving the user and will be launched.

This will allow these people not only stay active, avoiding cardiovascular problems, urinary, digestive or muscular atrophy, but also increase their autonomy in their living environments.

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena participates in this ambitious European project thanks to developments, pioneers and international leader in the application of cognitive robotics research group directed López Coronado Neurocor techniques.
