On Sunday April 19th, the Virgin leave the Basilica shoulder to tour the city center towards the harbor esplanade, where the bishop will preside at a Mass before returning again to the temple

On the occasion of the Year of Charity, the governing board of the Royal and Holy Charity Hospital has organized a procession and a Mass in honor of the patron, events taking place on Sunday April 19th.

At 4 pm, the Virgin of Charity leave in procession from the basilica towards the port, following an itinerary that will tour the Charity, Duke, San Francisco, San Miguel, Air and Cannon streets, and once on the esplanade port, Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Jose Manuel Lorca Planes, officiate a Mass accompanied by a hundred priests.

This will be about 17.30 hours, being scheduled at 19.00 hours, the Virgin returns to his temple, in this case being collected through the streets Mayor, Puerta de Murcia, Santa Florentina, Juan XXIII, San Juan, Merganser and Charity.

The image of the patron will be carried by portapasos of the four Brotherhoods of Easter, the Port Authority and members of the Royal and Holy Charity Hospital, as well as by anonymous people who want to join to take the throne, in any case, must wear dark suit.

These events commemorating the arrival of many worshipers from across the region are expected.

The image of the Virgin of Charity, Patroness of the city, by the Neapolitan sculptor Giacomo Colombo in 1723, arrived in Cartagena in April 1723 and after several locations, was finally installed in the church of Charity, after its opening in 1893.

Since then, no procession regularly, being exceptional and rare departures from his temple, as in 1923, which was canonically crowned in the Port;

1955, at which time he restored the crown stolen during the Civil War;

1993, the third anniversary of Charity Hospital commemorated and was named perpetual mayor of the city or in April 2005, when he was taken to the Hospital of Charity (Los Pinos) on the 50th anniversary of the return of his crown.
