Antonio Calderon, Councillor for Social Care and Josefa Maroto, Councillor for Education, met this morning with the heads of educational and municipal technical centers that are part of the program A Open School to other cultures: Intercultural Education.
Rodos they held a session that has been collected assessment work done previously and where it has opened a process of change and adaptation of the City of Cartagena program to a new methodological approach.
An Open to other cultures School: Intercultural Education promotes education and coexistence performing Centers Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary town of Cartagena featuring students and students belonging to immigrant families, thereby reflecting the diversity of our society .
A pioneering work in our region that develops since 2000.
The program objectives are:
- To promote the realization of projects Intercultural Education in the schools of the municipality, with involvement of all sectors of the community educativa.- contribute to the development of intercultural awareness, encouraging the establishment of an inclusive climate in schools, leading to a better knowledge and understanding of the customs, culture, language, thought and values ​​diversity alumnado.- promote education in values ​​of tolerance and mutual solidarity between students and immigrant students and the host community , in order to further exchanges and relationships are achieved adecuadas.- help students and immigrant students in their social integration and school providing a greater understanding of receptor context, avoiding discriminatory attitudes and understanding the rights and duties that inspire all relationships of convivencia.- develop measures that facilitate the approach of the parents of students and immigrant students to schools participating more actively in the education of their children / as and support standardized procedures and compensation Avoid educativa.- conflicts arising from social dislocation and loss of cultural identity in immigrant children.
At the meeting were represented the following schools: IES Bohío, Board Sacred Heart, IES Spartaria Cartago, CEIP Our Lady of Sorrows, IES Jiménez de la Espada, Luis Calandre CEIP, IES Mediterranean and Asdrubal CEIP.
