Culture restores the image of Our Father Jesus of Medina, sculptor Juan González Moreno (02/02/2015)

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities has carried out over the past seven months, the process of restoration of the image of Our Father Jesus of Medina, a work by the sculptor Juan González Moreno Murcia in 1940. The size in which recovery has invested a total of 20,000 euros, belongs to the Association of Students of Cartagena Marraja Guild and is one of the most devotion in the port city.

The Director General of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, chaired today the delivery of the image to the Association of Students in a ceremony which was attended by the Councillor for Culture of the City of Cartagena, Maria Rosario Montero and the vicar of Cartagena area and pastor of the church of Santa Maria de Gracia, José Abellán, as well as the president and churchwarden of the Pious Association of Our Father Jesus of Medina, Angel Carrillo and Francisco Martinez Riera.

During the ceremony, the Director General of Cultural Property highlighted the work of the Conservation Centre of the Ministry of Culture.

"One of our concerns is the preservation and restoration of the heritage of the region, and in this case also, the process has served to recover aspects and details of the original size that had disappeared with previous interventions that have enriched the work" said Maria Comas.

The intervention, which have been used latest techniques to detect damage in size, such as photography with visible light, ultraviolet light photography, macro photography, radiographic study or endoscopy, has been complex, deep and extensive, thanks have recovered her original details that had remained hidden until now as greenish tones applied in the neck to emphasize chafing of the rope or the original polychrome of the hands, which has enabled rediscover painted by sculptor veins.

After analyzing the damage that had the size, we proceeded to a comprehensive intervention that included a physical-chemical cleaning, treating cracks or chromatic reintegration, with particular attention to the area of ​​the feet, as one of the great days of this size is a traditional besapie held every first Friday in March.

In addition, a new color applied on the torso, arms and winder to give structure similar to what was at the time of its creation in 1940, prior to applying a protective coating appearance and the final assembly of the elements .
