"Teachers doing important work of comprehensive training of students goes beyond the transmission of a series of academic knowledge. Also, as was the case Jacinto Alcaraz, are a reference for students, who can instill a series of indispensable for passage to adulthood and their inclusion in society, such as solidarity, tolerance and respect "values, said Begoña Iniesta.
The award, created in 1998 to honor the figure of the teacher, seeks to reward and encourage in society the values ​​of coexistence and solidarity, which annually recognizes the work of an association, institution or individual who has stood by its work or defend these values ​​in the region of Murcia.
In this seventeenth edition, the award has gone to the Cancer Association and Life, a non-governmental organization composed of cancer patients or former patients and their families who provides support and assistance to all those affected by this disease.
In previous editions, the Jacinto Alcaraz Mellado prize went to other organizations such as the Chinguetti Foundation, the regional team transplantation of tissues and organs, members of Civil Protection Lorca or prominent figures such as English Teacher Juan Carrion, whose adventure filmmaker David Trueba reflected in the film "Living is easy with eyes closed '.
