The Municipal Group United Left-Greens has called in today, through a motion to be debated in full next January 27, that the City of our city in solidarity with the struggle of the people affected by Hepatitis C and support their demonstrations to declare its status as a health emergency.
Similarly, it has requested from Cartagena corporation the National Government be urged to make the necessary arrangements for, as a matter of urgency, to issue compulsory licenses for the production of the drug (Sofosbuvir) as a matter of generic drug to supply the market with a sustainable price to the public coffers to ensure all affected treatment.
It also calls for the central government withdraw its decision not to import generic if domestic production is not sufficient to guarantee care to all patients.
From United Left-Greens believed that public health is not something that demonstrates fattening the bottom of accounts pharmaceutical multinationals, so it is also requested that the Council urge the Government of Spain that it requires international agencies and the remaining EU countries that patent law is changed to prevent financial speculation with them and that trading costs are on public coffers.
In the same sense it is requested that the central government prohibits private patents on products developed in publicly funded research developed in public centers and public trials in patients centers are made.
Similarly, the request for a scientific investigation public and the launch of a public pharmaceutical industry capable of supplying health services such ownership develops included.
Besides translating these agreements to the Ministry of Health and all parliamentary groups of the Congress of Deputies, the motion filed by United Left-Greens also requests that the regional government, which has jurisdiction in the matter, be accountable and ensure supply the drug to all those affected in our region.
