The Ministry of Development, Public Works and Planning and the City of Cartagena, in collaboration with the business sector of the region, begin the work needed to drive from both administrations location of future Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) Cartagena in the industrial area of ​​Los Camachos.
This was agreed today by the Minister Francisco Barnabas and Mayor Pilar Barreiro during a meeting at City Hall, which has strengthened the existing mechanisms for dialogue, collaboration and coordination of actions for the development of all actions made in this matter.
Its main objective will be explained Barnabas, "optimize the efficiency of the whole sector in the field of logistics and freight transport, thus configuring a pulse tool to increase competitiveness and our economic recovery."
Barnabas said "This is a strategic project crucial and of the highest level, that will bring jobs, prosperity and wealth to the region, and on the bet decisively".
Areas of Logistical Activities
The ZAL are specialized areas in storage activities and load distribution, which also offer value added services that are provided.
The ZAL are usually associated with large ports, but can also be arranged at other locations where they do not exist.
Businesses have significant advantages to be located in a ZAL, derived from the possibilities of reducing transport costs.
One of the key elements of a ZAL is, consequently, making its location is the best possible connected with the network of transport infrastructure, so that the ZAL reach the largest number of modes of freight transport.
That is the reason why it was considered the industrial area of ​​Los Camachos as a good location as it is within walking distance of the port areas and opposite the knot connecting the AP-7 with the CT-32, allowing easy exit towards both Alicante and Murcia and Madrid direction.
Furthermore, this polygon belongs to SEPES, so that the soil is already available and in particular, an area of ​​200 acres able to develop the LAZ Cartagena.
Other topics
At the meeting other issues such as the arrival of the High Speed ​​port city, scheduled in 2016, and the third wire to be installed on roads to connect to Cartagena on the Mediterranean corridor were also addressed.
In this regard, the need was also defended expanding the port of Cartagena to container traffic.
In the key of urbanism, the forthcoming signing of an agreement for the declaration of Renewal Area and Urban Regeneration in the historic center of Cartagena, referred to the Housing Plan 2013-2016 was discussed.
