The area of ecology IU-Greens today expressed opposition to the project to dredge the sea port of Los Urrutias in Cartagena environment, whose launch was announced by the Directorate General of Coasts.
For training, such projects "represent faces return to influence actions that far from attacking the root of the problem of pollution of the Mar Menor, contribute to alter the balance of the ecosystem of the lake".
Furthermore, "provides no improvement whatsoever and involves an expenditure of public money that has no justification, either from the social point of view or from the environment".
In this regard, he recalled that similar actions were carried out on the beach in Los Urrutias two years ago and were denounced by Ecologists in Action, lacking the relevant environmental impact report.
"That dredging, far from being an improvement in water quality, resulted in complaints from visitors and locals to the next summer water turbidity and the formation of new areas of deeper sludge in areas which were the subject of dredging. "
The environmental impact report of the project has contributions from both the Spanish Oceanographic Institute and ANSE, impacting on the idea that dredging in the vicinity of the gateway port access will be a major damage to protected species of flora and fauna an area cataloged with several figures of environmental protection in Europe.
Among the species affected would be the hippocampus (seahorse) or Fartet, both listed endangered.
"We understand nonsense in the same environment seaport of Los Urrutias where signs prohibit the bathroom due to the completion of a LIFE study on fartet EU-funded advertised, so aggressive approving projects environmentally as dredging of up to 1.50 meters deep and also be repeated annually. "
In relation to this project, IU-Green has positively assessed the withdrawal of breakwaters along the beach, although for Marina believes that the best alternative would be the replacement of the elements and concrete pillars supporting the catwalk access to it by others who favored the circulation flow and avoid stagnation of water in that area.
IU-Green believes that environmental problems affecting this gap will not be solved with this type of partial and aggressive actions with the environment, but a coordinated strategy and shared between the social partners involved incident on the two major problems that through the Mar Menor, urban silting and uncontrolled intake of nutrients from agricultural areas in the field of Cartagena, especially through the Rambla del Albujón.
